The painting "Snow in Argenteuil" is a work by the French Impressionist Claude Monet, which he painted in 1875 during a winter stay in Argenteuil.
The painting shows a snow-covered landscape with a river running through the middle of the picture and surrounded by trees and houses. In the foreground, two people can be seen walking on the frozen river.
The painting is characterised by his typical Impressionist style of painting, which is characterised by the use of short, quickly applied brushstrokes and vivid colours. Monet has depicted the snowy landscape with a variety of colours and shades that invite the viewer to look at and experience the painting up close.
What is interesting about the painting's genesis is that Monet painted it during one of the harshest winters in France's history. The winter of 1875 was particularly cold and snowy and presented a great challenge to the artist, who was used to painting outside. Monet therefore set up an improvised workshop by stretching a tent of white fabric over his easel and warming himself under it while he painted.
Despite the difficulties of winter, Monet perfectly captured the beauty of the snowy landscape of Argenteuil.
