"The Blue Horse" by Franz Marc is an expressionist painting created in 1911.

It shows an abstracted horse in bright blue standing in a green meadow. The proud horse has a slender, almost geometric shape and its eyes are closed, which gives it a certain calmness. The background consists of yellow, green and red elements symbolising nature.

The painting is an example of Marc's preference for the abstracted representation of animals and his use of strong, bright colours.
